Carol Urban Obituary

Carol K. Urban, of Kingston passed away Thursday, July 6,2023 at Wilkes Barre General Hospital. Born in Ashley, Carol was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Kosteva. She was a graduate of Kingston High School class of 1958, and attended Wilkes College. Carol was employed as a legal secretary for the law firm of Fahey and Casper and later Attorney Theodore L. Krohn. Prior to her retirement, she was the Finance Secretary for the Municipality of Kingston for 35 years, retiring in 2004.Carol was a parishioner of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston, where she served as a lector and as a member of the parish writers. She enjoyed the Friday night movie group, bus trips with friends, flowers, and gardening. She had a large collection of angels and bobble heads. The angels were throughout the house. Her husband Jerome, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, died in 1997. She and her children, David and Teri, cared for him at home for several years before he suffered a stroke, and was confined to a nursing home, where he remained until his death. Because of his disease, Carol became involved with the Alzheimer’s Association and served on the board of directors for ten years, traveling to Washington D.C.  to attend the public policy forum where she engaged with legislators, and lobbied with the Pennsylvania Delegation for additional research funding. In addition, Carol did volunteer work with AARP of Pennsylvania. Her daughter, Teresa Lynn Urban, died in 1993 at the age of 21 of an unknown cause while a senior at Ursinus College, Philadelphia. Carol treasured spending time with her late daughter’s friends and their families; namely; Andrea Lycette, Beth Clausnitzer, Jennifer Skinner, Claire Puglise, Megan Sakhleh, Stacey Milliken, Tanya Kelly and John Correll, who never forgot her and made sure they spent Christmas with her every year. Surviving is her beloved son, David, Kingston; brothers; Dr. Charles Kosteva and his wife, Donna, Bethlehem; Edwin Kosteva and his wife, Jane, Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. David would like to extend a heartfelt thanks and a deep sense of gratitude to the Commonwealth General Hospital staff of doctors, nurses, and aides for the compassionate care they provided for Carol.  Funeral for Carol will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 9:45 from the Hugh P.
